Manolo Escobar Manolo Escobar is an award-winning Argentinean singer, composer, guitarist, and producer. He has released ten studio albums to date. His work combines classical influences with pop rhythms and world music sounds. Manolo Escoboar commonly sings in Spanish but has also recorded songs in English which have charted well worldwide. He is one of the top Latin American musicians today. In 2008, he received a Latin Grammy for Record of the Year for "Te Quise Tanto" from his album Fuego. Manolo Escobar was born in a small town of Tucumán called Vinchica. This is a town on the Central Norte region of Argentina. He started playing guitar at the age of 9 and has been involved in music since this time. He discovered his passion for music at the age of 12 by listening to Carlos Gardel's songs, as well as some Spanish singers such as Jose Jose. In 1985 he had his first taste of success as a musician by winning first place at local musical contests. He started performing at the age of 17, and in 1988 he moved to Buenos Aires where he began studying music. Around this time, his career as an artist started taking off. He won a local contest and was given the opportunity to open for a popular Argentine singer named Jorge Cafrune and began recording music and writing songs together. He also wrote songs for other artists, such as Mirtha Legrand, which brought him international attention. Since then his career has grown enormously. In 1992 he signed with Sire Records and released his first album "Sin Límites" which went platinum in Argentina. In 1994 Manolo Escobar signed with EMI Colombia where he released his second album "Un millonario". The album quickly reached platinum status in both Spanish and Portuguese. He was able to tour the country with this album, performing at Vive Latino. In 1995 Manolo Escobar released "Cumbia y polca", which was very successful in the South American region. This album went platinum in Argentina and Chile, as well as gold status in Colombia and Mexico. They were also able to tour the country together with Mirtha Legrand. In 1996 he received a World Music Award for "Best World Artist". In 1997 he released his third album "Eterno Amor" which included a duet with popular Colombian singer Shakira entitled "Me gustas tu". The album sold 400,000 copies and earned him a gold record in Argentina as well as a platinum record in Colombia. In 1999 he released an album entitled "Como Duele" which went gold in Argentina and platinum in Mexico. The main single from this album, also called "Como Duele", was nominated for Video of the Year at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival. From 2001 to 2003 he recorded and released two more albums with EMI: "Somos" and "Amor Libre". In 2004 he signed with Sony Music and together they released his next album "Fuego".
